March 7th, 9:46pm-Movies etc...

Just watched a ridiculous film called Daybreakers, starring Ethan Hawke (Explorers), Willem Dafoe (Speed 2: Cruise Control), and Sam Neill (Attack Force Z). Believe me, I haven't enjoyed a vampire film since The Lost Boys, so I had serious doubts about this one. Luckily, it wasn't as awful as it could have been, and had a decent story with some brutal gore thrown in. I would recommend it as a remedy for those who refuse to watch the Twilight films. Willem Dafoe gets extra kudos for making his terrible one-liners somewhat funny.

In other news, I am approaching the end of my higher education, and will finally (hopefully) be teaching soon enough. I would like to thank my lovely wife for motivating me to get my life in order. We will have to have a party to celebrate this milestone in my life...

Lastly, Nicole and I are contemplating taking up soccer (or football, as more sane people call it). This is good news as it will give me a chance to take down some American upstarts with my size twelves, while also shedding some pounds. Killing two birds with one stone me thinks!

  1. I'm with you on daybreakers, but Defoe was just the wrong side of corny for me. I'm a sucker for vampire movies (pun intended) and have to confess to enjoying the Blade films, especially where Jessica Biel gets involved. If you want to go to the other end of the vampire movie spectrum (I.e not comically overblown) have you seen Let The Right One In? (the original, not the Hollywood remake)? It's really engaging and nicely understated.

Didn't know you were training to be a teacher - being set loose on an impressionable generation... A noble calling. Hope it goes well.

Anyway, good luck with the 'soccer'. I play a couple of times a week and it almost offsets the amount of pies I eat.

  2. Just realised my Google profile is called Alpha Leisure - I must have used it for something work-related. Shows how much I converse via blogs. Anyway, it's actually George here making unsolicited comments on your life choices...

  3. I also liked Blade and Let The Right One In. Another good one from the 80s is Near Dark. It features a bunch of actors from Aliens, and is directed by an Oscar winner (Katherine Bigelow).
